The Mary Sano Studio of Duncan Dancing proudly presents the 29th Annual Dionysian Festival, a celebration of the 149th anniversary of Isadora Duncan’s birth with dance and music. This year, several talented artists and friends of the studio are returning to present their work; celebrating the mother of modern dance, who was born in San Francisco on May 26, 1877.
The program includes both solo and collaborative original work from Los Angeles based composer/pianist Tony Sano Chapman, Bay Area Flamenco dancer Koko de la Isla with flamenco guitarist Ricardo Diaz, award-winning composer Merrill Collins and Bamboo flutist Hideo.
This year we will welcome Sarod player Steven Oda with his group (Bill Witter on Tabla and Pushpa Oda on Tanpura) to play North Indian music. Mary Sano and her group will perform pieces from the traditional Duncan repertoire (Schubert and Chopin) as well as Sano’s original pieces accompanied by classical pianist Mutsuko Dohi and contemporary pianist Tony Sano Chapman.
